Get new starters into Compassly on their first day

The first weeks in a new job are busy enough. In Compassly a Manager adds a new starter with one scan and assigns everything their role needs in the same few steps, while experienced staff bring across the learning they have already completed, so everyone can get on with looking after patients.

Joining takes one scan

Everyone registers their own Compassly account once, on their phone or in a browser, so there are no accounts for you to create and no passwords to send out. To join your organisation, the new starter shows a QR code in the app and a Manager scans it from their own phone. Where scanning isn't practical, such as for someone joining from another site, the Manager types in a short joining code instead.

The Manager then checks the new starter's details and chooses their access level on the same screen, so an experienced nurse can start assessing colleagues from their first shift. Each account carries the person's profile picture, so Supervisors can always confirm who they are assessing.

How the app gets onto personal phones and ward devices is covered on Built around clinical users, and how people work for more than one organisation on Working across organisations.

Their role, assigned straight away

From the same flow, the Manager adds the new starter's job description: where they work, their service and their role. Compassly suggests the roles that match the person's profession, assigns the core competencies for that role along with any optional ones you choose, and adds them to the right teams, so they know what is expected of them from day one.

Anything they have already completed in Compassly counts straight away, so nobody repeats what they have already shown. Anyone added before their role is settled is easy to spot on the dashboard, so Managers can complete their setup as soon as the role is confirmed.

Credit for experience on paper

Experienced staff often arrive with competencies already signed off on paper. A Supervisor can sign several off together, attaching one set of evidence such as a scan of the signed pages, and when approving each one can set the date the work was actually done, so renewals fall due at the right time.

Where only part of a competency was assessed on paper, that part can be uploaded as evidence, so their record reflects everything they have already done. Your organisation decides who can approve this kind of sign-off, as described on Governance controls.

When people come back

Staff who leave and later return come back to their existing record in your organisation, so their history stays in one place. For staff returning from long leave, a Manager can reactivate competencies that lapsed while they were away, and the reason is kept on the record.
