Programmes of development, from preceptorship to local induction

Preceptorship, local induction, return to practice: programmes of development shape some of the most important months in a clinician's career, and each one brings its own deadlines, meetings and people to coordinate. Built around each timeline

Programmes are defined by their timelines: meetings, reviews and sign-offs at set points from each person's start. In Compassly each programme is a series of milestones, with their own stages, questions and evidence, and every deadline runs from each person's own start date, so you always know where everyone should be, whenever they joined.

Programmes change, and Compassly keeps up. You can update a single milestone without disturbing the rest, and the change reaches people already on the programme who haven't yet started that milestone.

One module, many programmes

Most registered staff will start with a preceptorship programme, but there are many other scenarios where the Programmes module in Compassly can help: local induction for new starters, return to practice, clinical supervision and international nurses settling into UK practice. Each programme can name its supporting role to suit, such as preceptor, buddy or supervisor.

Programmes also work across professions. Run a separate programme for each staff group, such as Nursing, Midwifery or AHPs, or one shared programme with common elements written once and reused, so standards stay consistent and nothing is written twice.

The right people engaged

A programme succeeds when everyone around the person is engaged. Each programme has named Programme Leads, who keep the list of approved preceptors, and only approved preceptors can be assigned, so every person is supported by someone ready for the role. Every assignment is logged with who made it and when.

Notifications keep everyone moving without anyone having to chase. Each person is reminded of what is coming up on their own record, preceptors stay on top of the people they support, and Programme Leads see everyone on their programmes, in the app, by push or by email, as each person chooses.

Hundreds of people, one view

With people starting and finishing at different times through the year, keeping on top of every programme from booklets and spreadsheets is a big job. Compassly groups people who start together into cohorts, and dashboards show how each cohort is progressing against its timeline and which records are due soon or late, so support goes where it is needed, early.

Line managers see programme progress for the people in their own teams, so responsibility for supporting preceptees and staff on other programmes is shared across your organisation.

Milestones and programmes can be signed off automatically once everything is complete, or by a Programme Lead, and Compassly records who signed off and when. Your organisation decides who can approve progress made elsewhere, so governance over the whole process stays firmly with you.
